Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 25, 2026

The short version: We don't collect your personal data. Your progress stays on your device. We embed YouTube videos which are subject to YouTube's own privacy policy.

Overview

The Modality is a jazz music theory learning app. We built it to help musicians understand modes — not to collect data about them.

This policy explains what data is handled when you use the app.

Data We Collect

We do not collect any personal information. The app does not require an account, login, or any form of registration.

Your learning progress, quiz scores, streak data, and lesson completions are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party.

YouTube

The Modality embeds YouTube videos to illustrate jazz modes with real recordings. When you play a video, you interact directly with YouTube's player. YouTube may collect data as described in Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not control what YouTube collects during video playback.

Analytics & Tracking

We do not use any analytics tools, crash reporting services, or tracking of any kind. We have no visibility into how you use the app.

Third-Party Services

The only third-party service integrated into the app is YouTube (Google LLC) for video playback. No other third-party SDKs, advertising networks, or data brokers are used.

Children

The Modality is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
